2A Rally 4-14-18 in Lincoln at our State Capitol

Our President, Patricia Harrold was asked to speak at the 2A Rally today in Lincoln at our State Capitol. For those of you who could not make it, here’s the text of her speech.

By the will of the people, we amended our state constitution. To declare, to clarify and to establish as our will, what we as citizens embrace and demand of our elected representatives.

Have you read it? Are you familiar with it?
“All persons are by nature free and independent and have certain inherent and inalienable rights; among these are life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and the right to keep and bear arms for security or defense of self, family, home, and others, and for lawful common defense, hunting, recreational use, and all other lawful purposes, and such rights shall not be denied or infringed by the state or any subdivision thereof. To secure these rights, and the protection of property, governments are instituted among people, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Citizens of Nebraska, we have a Unicameral, comprised of Senators elected by the districts in our state. But YOU are the first House. You are your own Representative. You are empowered and accountable for the work that in other states is done by elected individuals.

For too long, we have assumed that our values and traditions would remain respected and upheld and considered in the drafting, debating and enacting of legislation that represents the will of the people.

For too long, we have assumed that logic, reason and our constitution would be enough to temper and restrict any efforts to infringe on our civil rights and yet our freedoms in Nebraska are left to face a tempest of ignorance.

We are surrounded by states with far more enumerated freedom. We are at the mercy of elected senators who deem themselves above the constitution and the will of the majority. But why is that?

Because we are silent, we are unseen, we are no risk to their tenure in elected office.

We have allowed those who have no sense of personal responsibility, who wish to be coddled by an ineffective government to protect them and our children, to paint, shape and control the narrative. By sitting back and staying out of the fray, we have allowed city councils, school boards and our Unicameral to ignore the mandate of Article 1, Section 1 of our Constitution. We have permitted them to set up landmines of infringements that prohibit you, as a law abiding citizen the right to own, possess and use when necessary the tools that protect you, your loved ones and your communities.

The firearms community represented by the Nebraska Firearms Owners Association is vast, is found across all counties in our state, and we fight every day for you. We join forces with other organizations to educate our elected officials, to present testimony, to correct falsehoods and to counter the rising tide against us. But we are simply citizens, like you, with lives, with jobs, with children and community obligations. We face an enemy emboldened by the media, financed by billionaires, supported by corporations all of whom simply wish to create a new world order where the power of the people is manipulated and controlled.

We cannot sit back any longer and go on with our lives, venting on social media, at the dinner table and in gatherings with those like us. We must take our energy and time and focus together, as a unified voice, to counter and shift the direction our state and this country is going.

Join us today. Make a commitment to your future, and to the future we will create for our children.

Add your voice to the NFOA and to these other organizations who have joined forces here today. Learn how to be an effective representative of the 2nd Amendment and the traditions and values you hold sacred. Develop a relationship with your elected officials. Show up at hearings of your city council. Show up to meetings of your school board. Show up at rallies for those running for office. Make your voice heard. Write letters and make phone calls. Now is the time to take a stand. To commit to this battle and the wars to come.

Because if not you, who?

Because if not now, when?

For one day, the tides will have turned, and it will be too late.

Second Amendment Event

Freedom loving Americans will be gathering at their state capitols across America today. Many Nebraskans will be joining them, in spite of the weather, the wind and the rain to show their support for the Second Amendment and to combat the calls for legislation which will only serve to infringe on the rights of the law abiding.

Unlike the recent gun control marches, these are truly grassroots events, put on without the help of Hollywood billionaires or America’s largest corporations. Delta Air Lines will not be flying supporters in for free. CNN & MSNBC will not be there fawning over them. There will not be paid workers handing out free lunch money.

Instead, this nationwide event relies on ordinary Americans who love freedom and are sick of being made the scapegoat for the government’s failure to protect its citizens. Honest men and women who are tired of being lied to by politicians who stand on stage at an NRA convention and proclaim their love for the Second Amendment only to later enact draconian gun control. Ordinary people who are simply attempting to engage in the dialogue and have their voices heard while being censored by the likes of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.

If you can, join these Nebraskans today at 1 p.m. on the steps of the State Capitol. We cannot win this war alone. Every battle matters.

Join us for the 2nd Amendment Rally November 5th

Join us for the 2nd Amendment Rally November 5th

When’s the last time you saw a positive news report or article in the paper that put firearms and gun owners in a positive light? Sure, now and then there might be a report of our UNL rifle team or a personal defense story with a CHP holder. But we know the answer, not often. In the wake of tragedies like New York or Las Vegas or the most recent armed robbery, sexual assault, or armed carjacking, our communities are bombarded with stories of when firearms were used by criminals, murderers or terrorists. But there is a risk to this imbalance in the news. The media narrative paints and crafts a picture that those outside our community assume is the truth. Those of us within the firearms community on the other hand know all about the millions of positive stories of law abiding gun owners. Whether it’s a friend or family member who was grateful they had their CHP and avoided a threat, or the latest and greatest hunting experience, or simply sharing with friends and family the enjoyment of competitive shooting, or range time, millions of firearm owners responsibly and legally exercise their right every single day!

We call upon you to join us November 5th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the western steps of the Unicameral.

Join a grassroots movement that will be occurring across the United States.

As the Voice of Firearms Owners in Nebraska, we work diligently to represent your voice in the Unicameral and when called upon, in the media. We know we represent a diverse, law abiding, community of individuals who make positive contributions to Nebraska’s employers, schools, churches and communities. We are proud to uphold our traditions of personal responsibility for our own security, to hunt, to shoot competitively and for sport. We recognize the fundamental truth of the 2nd Amendment and how it recognizes that a people have the right and responsibility to hold their government accountable in response to tyranny. We are proud to be gun owners.

However, there is a growing risk and we are becoming one of the most misunderstood communities in the nation. Time and time again, firearms are vilified instead of the individual criminal or terrorist. The opportunity to represent law abiding gun owners, whose passion for and commitment to the 2nd Amendment, is an honor. But we can no longer be passive. We must take an active role in shaping and crafting attitudes and beliefs about firearm owners. As members of NFOA – we need you!

Organizations and ordinary citizens are gathering at their state capitol on November 5th to rally in support of and advocate for the rights preserved in the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution. Will you join them?

We must take the initiative and publicly and positively advocate for the rich tradition of responsible firearms ownership in Nebraska for the purposes of defense, hunting, competition and sport. The rally welcomes all political backgrounds on this fundamental issue. The 2nd Amendment is for all citizens. We as firearm owners must be SEEN actively encouraging citizenship, promoting safe and responsible firearms ownership, and positive pride in our traditions. We believe that politics shouldn not divide us from our friends and neighbors when it comes to a basic constitutional right.

We as Nebraskans have a long and respected history of independence, courage, and strong family traditions. We are proud of our tradition and are tired of the vilification of all gun owners that occurs when tragedies strike our great nation. We want our community to see who we are, that we are their neighbors, coworkers, and fellow citizens and we want to reduce violence and crime with the same level of desire of those that are anti-gun. We simply know that their strategies will not succeed.

This rally is about active citizenship, community, and advocacy for what we all know is a fundamental and inherent human right – the right to self-defense, the right to hunt, the right to pursue activities that are enriching, educational and enjoyable.

We are looking forward to seeing you there and hearing from an assortment of speakers such as Senator Laura Ebke, Mr. Dick Clark, Mr. Chris Baker and others.
