It moves to Select file after E&R gets done with it, they fix numbering issues etc and may put forward an amendment to do that if it’s needed, at that point it gets another vote that comes with a second chance to filibuster or amend the bil. Then after it completes its second visit to E&R it goes back out for final passage (unless it gets sent back to select file to receive another amendment, happens but not common). Final reading does not allow for much to happen unless recommitted to Select File but Ernie does get one final chance to filibuster. by Andy Allen

PA governor promises to veto gun preemption bill moving through Senate

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf said Tuesday he will veto a preemption bill aimed at firearm regulations should it get to his desk.

The Senate Local Government Committee advanced Senate Bill 5, a rebooted proposal invalidated by the Supreme Court last year, on a vote of 8-3, sending the measure to the full chamber for consideration.

During the committee’s meeting Tuesday, Minority Committee Chairman Sen. John Blake, D-Lackawana, delivered the veto news on behalf of the administration as he urged a no-vote on the legislation.

“Quite simply because I think this bill is doing something unprecedented in allowing a membership organization to sue a local government and allow injunctive relief,” he said. “When I consider the things our local governments are facing, I don’t know why we are considering this.”

The bill would prevent the state’s 2,500-plus municipalities from enacting gun ordinances stricter than state law. A similar measure was introduced in the House earlier this month.

Recently Released ATF White Paper Reevaluates Current Firearms Regulations

The Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms’ (ATF) Associate Deputy Director and Chief Operating Director, Ronald Turk, wrote an 11-page proposal for reevaluation of restrictions currently placed on firearms in the United States. The proposal, entitled “Options to Reduce or Modify Firearms Regulations,” suggests “removing restrictions on the sale of gun silencers; allowing gun dealers to have more guns used in crimes traced to their stores before the federal government requires additional information from the dealer; and initiating a study on lifting the ban on imported assault weapons” (via Washington Post).

Gun control flick ‘Miss Sloane’ flops at the box office but snags Golden Globe nod

Movie goers weren’t too interested in “Miss Sloane,” a film that explores the gun control debate from the perspective of a lawyer who is lobbying for universal background checks for gun ownership. Still, the film’s leading lady, Jessica Chastain, landed a Best Actress Golden Globe nomination for the poorly received flick.

The film, which premiered in select cities on Thanksgiving, hit more theaters this past weekend, and it fizzled in its wide expansion, earning $1.9 million from 1,648 locations.

According to Deadline, “Miss Sloane” cost $13 million to produce. It currently has a score of 69 percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

The movie was projected to earn a paltry $5 million at the box office, according to the Los Angeles Times, but so far it’s fallen short.

Moms & Armed Self-Defense

The firearm, the safe, the training—it’s the holy trinity of gun ownership. Across our Second Amendment-loving community, there exists a general consensus that these three elements shall not be separated. I learned this the day I was given my first gun, and have abided by it ever since. And like many single women, back then I obtained my concealed-carry permit, was diligent about my own safety and maintained my gun training religiously. Situational awareness was always paramount in my thinking, as my trainers, colleagues and family had preached. But those were the days before I became a mom.

DC police takes over an hour to respond to burglary at home

t took D.C. police an hour to respond to a burglary in progress at a Northeast D.C. home that was struck for the second time in a week.

“This is kind of scary for us,” said one of the victims who lives at the home. “We found a knife on [my roommate’s] bed.”

A neighbor called 911 twice and watched as the suspect loaded a television and other stolen items into one of the victim’s car.

Guns for Beginners: How to Find Quality Self-Defense Firearm Training

For Men and Women

Carrying a gun lawfully for self-defense can make the difference between life and death in a critical situation. Yet at the same time it can be fraught with risk to the carrier thanks to laws and land sharks. Training can help reduce those risks dramatically.

In a perfect world (and an increasing number of states), you wouldn’t need a license to carry. Or training in the effective use of a firearm for self-defense. Unfortunately, the world isn’t perfect and neither are we.

Drake University Professor Stops Stereotyping Gun Owners After She Meets One

In a May 6th Des Moines Register Op-Ed, Professor Spaulding-Kruse made her disdain for guns crystal clear. She also admitted to something many of our readers are well aware of, but seldom receive confirmation on. She owns up to the fact that she stereotypes gun owners. She doesn’t go into detail of what her “gun owner stereotype” consists of, but we know from experience that gun control advocates work hard to portray gun owners as uneducated, abusive, and racist old white men who are liable to snap at any moment.

Amy Schumer Increases Personal Security While Pushing Gun Control for Americans

During a recent interview with Lena Dunham, comedian Amy Schumer talked about increasing her personal security even as she has pushed for increased gun control measures for everyday Americans.

The actress failed to note the impotence of gun control measures that was demonstrated months later in the heinous attack in Orlando. But she did point out that she’s ramped up her own security.

“Do you have increased security at your shows now because of it?” Dunham asked. “Because people are so f**king nuts.”

“Yes. Security is up,” Schumer replied. “I’m really trying to protect myself. I am not being an idiot.”

Mass Shootings Drive Support for Concealed Carry

It’s not surprising. Americans’ support for gun rights has increased dramatically over the past few decades. 51 percent of respondents to a 2000 Gallup poll said the presence of a gun made a home less safe. Only 35 percent said a home-defense gun increases safety. By 2014, the results had reversed. 60 percent felt safer with a gun, 30 percent less safe.

A 2015 Pew survey found 54 percent of African-Americans view gun ownership favorably, up from 29 percent just two years before. Police Chief James Craig supports the trend. A black lawman in charge of a mostly black city, Craig feels attitudes are simply catching up with white America. “It was a well-known fact here in Detroit,” he says. “People didn’t have a lot of confidence that when they dialed 911, that the police were going to show up. In fact, we know they didn’t.”

‘Gun Lobby’ Maintains Deliberate Silence on Hillary’s Immigration Threat to RKBA

“The U.S. could resettle nearly one million immigrants from the Muslim world under one term of a Hillary Clinton presidency, according to projections from Center for Immigration Studies’ Steve Camarota,” Breitbart reports. “Clinton could add 10 million new immigrants to the U.S. during her first term alone– in addition to the 11 million illegal immigrants Clinton has said she plans to amnesty within her first 100 days in office.”

Outrageously, much of Clinton’s plan to “fundamentally transform” America is indistinguishable from immigration policies endorsed by top establishment Republicans. And equally outrageous, NRA ignores that when it awards “A” grades to politicians — even though the policies they support will result in certain and irreversible infringements on the right to keep and bear arms.

Upgraded Idaho Castle Doctrine

The video explains it all but in summary, if a criminal breaks into your home in Idaho it is NOT necessarily justification to shoot him.  You must prove that he intended to do you harm.

That is NOT what a gun owner should have to worry about when someone breaks into their home.

It should not be on you, as the victim, to have to prove your innocence.  It should be the criminals job to prove that you maliciously killed him!

257,000 vets not allowed to own guns

The Obama administration is facing congressional scrutiny for blocking more than a quarter-million military veterans from owning guns. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has reported more than 257,000 former members of the military who cannot manage their finances to the FBI’s list of people who are not allowed to own guns, Republicans claim, even though “it has nothing to do with regulating firearms.”
